Homeopathic Treatment of a Migraine Headache
Migraines are acute vascular headaches characterized by throbbing or pulsing sensations, blurry vision, nausea or vomiting, light and sound sensitivity and pain that is severe enough to interfere with normal activities. Homeopathic treatment of migraines is based on matching a particular remedy to the headache sufferer's particular symptoms. If a first dose is insufficient, another dose may be taken up to several times per hour.-
Migraines and Homeopathy
-
Traditional treatment of migraine and other vascular headaches generally involves very potent drugs. Medications of this strength expose you to a risk of potentially serious side effects, so they should be treated as a last resort. However, a migraine that goes untreated can last for several hours and is so severe that lying down and relaxing or taking a milder medication like aspirin will likely bring no relief. The gap between these two extremes is where homeopathic treatment lies. Homeopathic remedies are safe and carry no risk of harmful side effects, even for children. If your migraines do not respond to home treatment, homeopathic care from a professional homeopathic practitioner should be the next course of action.
Aconitum Nappellus
-
This remedy should be given for a sudden and acute headache that manifests in a band around the head or a bursting pain in the forehead. Symptoms can also include restlessness and thirst, and become worse at night.
Belladonna
-
Belladonna should be given for a headache that comes on suddenly and is accompanied by throbbing, pounding and a hot, red or flushed head or face. Other symptoms may include extreme sensitivity to light, touch, smell, noise and motion, which triggers another wave of intense pain. The pupils may be dilated and a high fever might accompany this headache as well.
Bryonia
-
A headache that is characterized by a tearing pain, normally on the right side of the head and which becomes worse with motion, should be treated with bryonia. Motion is the major aggravator, and even a slight movement of the head or eyes can cause pain. Constipation may also be present with this type of headache. Often, slight pressure makes the headache worse, while firm pressure relieves it.
Iris Versicolor
-
This remedy is best for a migraine that begins with blurred vision, tight-feeling scalp, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting. This type of headache is often worse in the evening and at night.
