Homeopathic Remedies for Rosacea
Many people in North America are affected by rosacea. Women tend to be more affected than men. Fair skinned people have the condition more than those with darker skin. Rosacea generally affects people between the ages of 30 and 60. All in all, about 14 million people in North America have the condition. Rosacea is characterized by red skin, which may include small red bumps on the nose, cheeks, forehead or chin, small blood vessels that are apparent on the nose or cheeks, and a tendency to blush easily.-
Zinc and Jojoba or Hemp Oil
-
Many homeopathic and naturopathic practitioners prescribe zinc oxide in the form or creams or supplements to treat cases of rosacea. Zinc is useful in treating many skin conditions including acne and rosacea, because it has anti-inflammatory properties, thereby reducing the formation of pustules on the face common to the rosacea sufferer.
Jojoba oil or hemp oil can be applied directly to a damp face and gently massaged into problem areas. These natural remedies are readily available at your local health food store.
Green Tea Cream
-
Another alternative homeopathic treatment is the use of green tea cream. In a small study conducted by Syed Skincare Inc., 30 women between the ages of 25 to 50 years of ages were given green tea cream and 30 were given a placebo cream. Many experienced common symptoms of rosacea including redness, pustules, and small visible blood vessels. Those women using the green tea cream experienced an improvement in the redness of their skin, along with other symptoms as compared to the women using the placebo cream. More in depth studies are needed to determine the efficacy of this treatment, but it shows promise for rosacea patients.
Olive Oil and Chamomile Essential Oil
-
A simple homeopathic remedy for rosacea is to mix one tablespoon of olive oil with one drop of chamomile essential oil. Apply to the affected area on your face and massage in gently. You may also apply to the neck and ears if needed. This treatment is a bit oily, so it is best to use at night. Chamomile is a great skin soother and is available over the counter in cleansers, soaps and other products like moisturizers to treat sensitive skin. If you are allergic to ragweed, however, avoid the use of chamomile in any form.
