Homeopathic Remedies for Generalized Itching

Itching can be cause by a number of factors, including dry skin, sunburn, chemicals, cold weather and bug bites and infestations. While the temptation is to scratch, doing so can cause bruising and soreness and, depending on your skin, could create an open wound that could eventually scar. As frustrating as it can be, most people don't want to foot a doctor's bill to get treated for their itching. There are many homeopathic remedies you can consider when trying to find a cure to your itch.
  1. Topical Applications

    • Taking a peppermint bath is one of the most popular forms of itching relief, as is an oatmeal bath. Take an oatmeal bath by filling a bathtub with warm water and pouring two cups of oatmeal in. You can take a white vinegar bath by pouring a cup of white vinegar into a warm water bath. Apply cod liver oil and/or aloe vera to the itching skin. Mix coconut oil and lime juice together into a paste and apply, letting it sit for at least 30 minutes. You can also try using vitamin E oil or neem oil. For immediate relief, apply hot water to your itching skin.

    Mental Tricks

    • In many cases, scratching can only make things worse. You can win the mental battle by using a few tricks to divert your mind from the itching. Find a "scratching board"--something you can scratch instead of your skin. Because your brain associates scratching with relief, you might be able to trick yourself into feeling like the itching has subsided. If you have trouble keeping your hands away from your skin, wear oven mitts, mittens or anything else that prevent your fingers and nails from scratching your skin.

    Dietary Considerations

    • Avoid salty foods and sodium in general. Your bloodstream can cause or aggravate itching, and sodium will only aggravate itching. You should also take vitamin C and E supplements and drink plenty of water.
