Homeopathic Use of Sulphur

Sulphur has a wide array of uses, which run the gamut from being used as rubber for electrical insulation and controlling garden pests, to being used to treat medical conditions. Sulphur can treat common skin ailments, digestive disorders and keep the immune system in tact. Sulphur is found in every cell in our body, especially hair, skin and nails.
  1. Skin Conditions

    • Sulphur has been used for thousands of years to treat skin disorders. Scabies, eczema, candidiasis and rashes are some of the most common ailments sulphur can treat. Any time skin is dry, itchy and scaly, sulphur has a soothing effect and can alleviate those symptoms. It can also cure redness and itching around the anus, hemorrhoids and anal fissures.

    Internal Issues

    • Sulphur can be used to treat digestive medical conditions such as vomiting, diarrhea and hunger pains. It can also quell symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) such as headaches, irratibility, insomnia, dizziness, hot flashes and sweating. Other ailments that sulphur helps dissipate include lower back pain, fever, migraines, conjunctivitis and anxiety.

    Mind and Body

    • Sulphur has positive homeopathic effects for most any common ailment or illness. In addition, it helps strengthen the immune system and keeps the mind in focus. Stress, lethargy, forgetfulness and depression are mental conditions that sulphur can help alleviate. It can help clear "cobwebs" out of the brain to improve focus and mental sharpness.

    Availability

    • The elemental form of sulphur is found in hot springs and near volcanoes. To be used as a homeopathic remedy sulphur must be diluted with either milk or a water and alcohol solution. If you do not live in an area close to hot springs or volcanoes, the easiest method to obtain sulphur is at a health food or vitamin store. Supermarkets with sections dedicated to all-natural remedies also typically have sulphur tablets. Homeopathic sulphur can be purchased online as well.

    Side Effects

    • As with any type of remedy, sulphur can be detrimental to your health if taken in large doses. Some possible adverse side effects include bloating, diarrhea, flatulence and a burning sensation in the stomach. On very rare occasions, an excessive amount of sulphur could worsen any pre-exisiting, inflammatory conditions. Diabetics are a perfect example, as blood sugar disorders can become exacerbated with an overabundance of sulphur supplements. Also, those with calcium-related disorders such as osteoporosis and those with low-potassium disorders must consult a doctor before beginning a sulphur regimen. Calcium and potassium supplements must be adjusted based on the amount of sulphur that is taken.
