Homeopathic HPV Treatment

The human papilloma virus (HPV) can cause genital warts. However, many times the body's immune system defeats the virus before it takes up residence on the skin or in the mucous membranes. In instances where the infection is successful, transmission of the virus is through skin-to-skin contact. An estimated 20 million Americans are currently infected with HPV; however, this number is fluid since current infections are resolving and new infections are occurring every day.

    • There are over 100 types of HPV, but fewer than 10 of those cause genital warts. Considered highly contagious, genital warts can infect the mouth of someone who has oral sexual contact with an infected person. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, more than 50 percent of sexually active Americans will become infected with HPV at some point. However, 90 percent of these infections are terminated by the immune system, and outward signs of the infection never occur. Even so, some types of HPV can cause cancer of the cervix. There is no cure or treatment for HPV. Standard treatment for genital warts is removal.

    Homeopathic Treatments for HPV

    • The most common homeopathic treatment for HPV is Thuja occidentalis. The suggested strength varies according to the homeopathic specialist and the individual's symptoms. Other common homeopathic treatments for HPV are Sabina, Sepia, Staphysagria and Nitric Acid. Sometimes Antimonium Crudum, Mercurius Sulphuratus Ruber and Natrum Sulphuricum are used to treat this disease.

    Considerations

    • Successful homeopathic treatments include a consultation with a homeopathic specialist. Since homeopathic specialists treat the whole person, it is likely that any underlying factors that may be stressing the immune system will be resolved. Homeopathic specialists usually begin with small doses of the indicated treatment. The potency is increased until an effective dose for the patient is reached. Proper treatment can last for two months or more.

    Warnings

    • Standard treatment requires removal of the warts. Homeopathic treatment does not advocate removal of the warts. This is considered a superficial treatment that does not address the patient's underlying immune system weakness. The successful treatment of HPV with homeopathy is not proven by scientific studies. The Mayo Clinic reports that approximately 30 percent of genital warts resolve without treatment.
