Polycystic Ovarian Disease & Lycopodium

Polycystic ovarian disease, or PCOS, is a disease in which benign cysts form on the ovaries, having an effect upon hormone levels, which in turn can cause a variety of symptoms.
  1. Background

    • There is no natural or homeopathic cure for PCOS; however lycopodium can alleviate some of the effects of the disease.

    Identification

    • Lycopodium is generally taken as a yellow powder and comes from the spores of the Lycopodium clavatum plant, which is commonly known as wolf's foot, vegetable sulphur or club moss.

    Function

    • Lycopodium is used to treat the nausea, insomnia, bloating, constipation and anxiety that can be caused by PCOS.

    Dosage

    • Lycopodium is generally prepared as a tea, using 1.5 grams of the powder. The tea should be taken up to twice a day to relieve symptoms.

    Warning

    • The herb monograph cautions that lycopodium should not be used for prolonged periods of time. It is wise to consult a homeopath before beginning to use lycopodium for the treatment of PCOS.
