Easy Home Remedies
Many people are concerned about taking too many pills and prescription medication for troublesome symptoms and disease control. There are natural alternatives to many common ailments that are safe, effective and easy on the wallet. Many of these solutions can be found right in your cupboard or easily purchased at your local health food store. Who would have thought something as simple as salt was an effective bacteria killer and could clear up painful sore throat symptoms? Sometimes we only need to look as far as our own kitchens for an effective treatment for many common symptoms and ailments.-
The Common Cold
-
Many annoying symptoms accompany the common cold and can be relieved with all-natural home remedies. A salt-water gargle is effective for eliminating a sore throat. Gargle for three minutes several times a day. Essential oils of thyme, tea tree, eucalyptus, lavender and clove are the essential oil "heavy hitters" when it comes to fighting any bacterial, fungal or viral infection, including the common cold. See resources for additional information.
Warts
-
Surprisingly, tea tree oil is more effective at permanently eliminating warts than any other over-the-counter wart removal system. For maximum penetration of the essential oil, you will need to lance the wart with a sterilized needle. Apply tea tree oil to the wart two times a day, for seven to 10 days, and keep the wart covered with a bandage.
Dry Skin and Hair
-
Believe it or not, olive oil is a fantastic deep-penetrating hair masque and skin softener. Olive oil can be applied to the face and left on overnight. It makes a terrific moisturizer and is even safe for the delicate eye area. Additionally, taking 1,000 mg of flaxseed oil twice a day will give you baby-soft skin. You will also notice improved bowel function.
Acne
-
Coarsely ground oatmeal makes a fantastic facial scrub and acne mask. Used once a day for seven days, will greatly improve acne symptoms by exfoliating the skin and drying up excess oils. Tea tree oil applied directly to pimples is also very effective in killing acne-causing bacteria. Acne treatments can be very drying to the skin; to counterbalance these effects, a combination masque of honey and banana can be applied once a week to moisturize the skin.
Digestive Problems
-
Essential oil of coriander, grapefruit and cypress are helpful in alleviating digestive symptoms. See additional resources for information on the complete book of essential oils and how to use them for therapeutic purposes. Also, choosing a fruit with digestive enzymes to accompany meals that include meat or dairy can also help improve digestive function. Some useful fruits are pineapple (high in digestive enzymes), mango and all other citrus fruits.
Migraine Headaches
-
Essential oil of peppermint applied to the head and neck has proven to be very effective in migraine symptom control. Other essential oils used in a synergistic blend include chamomile, roman grapefruit and rosemary. Ginger root has also been touted as an effective remedy for the severe nausea and vomiting that often accompany a migraine. In addition, feverfew capsules taken on a daily basis is a longstanding and proven home remedy for migraine prevention and/or reduction of attacks.
