Plants for Baldness Cures
A commonly held belief about hair loss is that it's all in the genes: in other words, there's nothing you can do about it. But according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, new research shows that while genetics do play a part, other factors such as high stress levels, poor diet and nutritional deficiencies also contribute to baldness. Natural remedies such as plant extracts, plant-based essential oils and herbs are also thought to improve hair growth. As with any alternative remedy, it is important to check with your doctor before using plants to regrow hair, especially if you're taking medications.-
Essential Plant Oils
-
According to New York University's Langone Medical Center, studies have shown a connection between the use of essential plant oils and hair regrowth. Thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedarwood essential oils mixed in a base of grape seed and jojoba oils and massaged into the scalp have been shown to increase hair growth. University of Maryland Medical Center recommends mixing three to four drops each of peppermint, rosemary and sage oils in 1 tbsp. of olive oil and massaging it into the scalp two times a day. Allergic reactions can occur when you use essential oils, so discontinue them if you suffer unwanted symptoms. You should also check with your doctor if you are using other topical medications for baldness to make sure the oils will not react negatively with them.
Khellin Fruit
-
According to New York University, preliminary evidence suggests that there may be a connection between the extract of the khella plant and new hair growth. When applied in conjunction with ultraviolet light, khellin, as the extract is known, has been shown to increase hair growth.
Common Fruits and Vegetables
-
The University of Maryland Medical Center says that those who want to increase their hair growth should eat fruits and vegetables high in B vitamins, iron and antioxidants. Dark green, leafy and sea vegetables are good sources of B vitamins and iron, and tomatoes, cherries, blueberries, peppers and squash are all full of antioxidants.
Herbs
-
The University of Maryland Medical Center also notes that certain herbs can help with hair loss and hair shaft disorders. For example, take 80 to 160 mg of milk thistle taken twice a day, 40 to 80 mg of gingko three times a day and 250 mg of Relora up to three times a day to help increase blood flow, bolster antioxidant effectiveness and reduce stress. These may lead to increased hair growth.
