Homeopathic Sore Throat Remedy
-
Condition Worsens at Night
-
If the pain seems worse on the right side of the throat or body, or increases when taking a breath or swallowing, then homeopaths recommend belladonna, Carbo Vegetabilus or phosphorus.
The common name of belladonna is Deadly Nightshade. Tiny amounts dilate the pupils, hence the Italian name, "Beautiful Lady." Homeopathic tinctures come from the whole plant when it flowers.
Common names of Carbo Vegetabilis are vegetable charcoal or black charcoal. Remedies come from the residue of a controlled burning of beech or birch wood (just as in charcoal making). Phosphorus is made into a highly diluted tincture with alcohol.
When there is also a putrid coating of the sore throat or a complete case of laryngitis, Mercurious Solubilis may help. A common name for this remedy is Quicksilver.
Burning Pain in Throat
-
When a very red and dry throat accompanies burning pain and the onset is sudden, Aconite, also called Aconitum Napellus, monkshood or wolfbane, if taken within the first 24 to 48 hours, may abort the attack.
Cantharis (Spanish Fly) may help if there is increased sexual desire or a recurring depression in the morning. Homeopathic tinctures come from immersing dried Cantharis beetles in alcohol. It takes about 13,000 dried insects to make one kilogram.
Magnesia Phosphorica, or magnesium phosphate, is a highly diluted mixture of phosphate of soda and sulfate of magnesia. This medicine may help when eye fatigue and pain behind the right ear accompany a sore throat. Homeopathic practitioners suggest the remedy Phytolacca Decandra when warmth and dry weather improve the throat problems.
Hoarseness
-
When the primary problem with a sore throat is hoarseness, these four particular remedies may improve the condition: Allium Cepa, Antimonium Tarticuum, Chamomilla and Spongia Tosta.
Allium Cepa is the common red onion and the homeopathic medicine comes from the whole plant harvested in July or August. Confirmations of this remedy are sneezing, runny nose, vertigo and forehead pain.
Antimonium Tarticuum is antimony potassium tartarate dissolved in water and diluted. Symptomatic changes include sleepiness, dislike of being touched and an intolerance to noise
.
Chamomilla is the ground apple and tinctures come from the whole plant when in bloom. If the patient is easily angered, suffers from sleeplessness and a feeling that fingers are pressing on the forehead, this may suggest Chamomilla as a treatment.Spongia Tosta is roasted animal skeletons of a sponge in the Euspongia genus. Key symptoms recommending this remedy are anxiety and fear that increases the need to cough or afternoon sleepiness.
