Hypnotherapist Training

A certified hypnotherapist is someone who has been trained by an accredited hypnotherapy school in the art and science of hypnosis.
  1. Features

    • Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation in which a person is more susceptible to suggestions.

    Significance

    • Hypnosis is used for behavior modification, such as smoking cessation, weight loss, and for controlling anxiety, phobias and pain.

    Educational Instutions

    • Hypnotherapy schools are accredited through the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, which certifies health professions such as psychologists.

    Training

    • The American Council of Hypnotist Examiners requires 200 training hours for basic certification and 300 training hours for clinical certification from an approved school. The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis requires that a student is currently licensed in their home state in health, dental or psychotherapeutic services.     Licensing

    • According to the California Institute of Healing Arts and Sciences, with the exception of Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, and Washington, there is no "official" licensing required to become a certified hypnotherapist.
