What is a venipunture?

Venipuncture is a medical procedure that involves puncturing a vein with a needle to access a vein for the purposes of drawing blood, administering medications, or to place an intravenous line. It is a commonly used procedure in healthcare settings to obtain blood samples for testing, administer intravenous fluids or medications, or give blood transfusions. The insertion of an IV cannula is also known as intravenous cannulation.
