What is Prostomegaly?
Prostomegaly refers to an enlarged prostate gland. The prostate is a small, muscular gland located below the bladder in males. It produces seminal fluid, which helps to transport sperm during ejaculation.
Prostomegaly is a common condition in older men. It is usually caused by a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate gland, known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH can cause a number of symptoms, including:
* Difficulty starting urination
* Weak or interrupted urine stream
* Frequent urination, especially at night
* Inability to completely empty the bladder
* Pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen, back, or pelvis
In some cases, prostomegaly can be caused by prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men after skin cancer. It is important to see a doctor if you are experiencing any of the symptoms of prostomegaly, as they could be a sign of a more serious condition.
Treatment for prostomegaly depends on the underlying cause. For BPH, treatment options may include lifestyle changes, medication, or surgery. For prostate cancer, treatment options may include surgery, radiation therapy, hormone therapy, or chemotherapy.
