What is phenumonia?

Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that can be caused by a variety of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Bacteria cause the most common type of pneumonia. When someone has pneumonia, the air sacs in their lungs (alveoli) become inflamed and filled with fluid or pus. This can make it difficult to breathe and can lead to a variety of symptoms, including cough, fever, chest pain and shortness of breath.

Common symptoms of pneumonia include:

- Cough (may produce phlegm)

- Fever

- Shortness of breath or rapid breathing

- Chest pain when breathing or coughing

- Loss of appetite and fatigue

- Nausea or vomiting (in children)

- Chills and tremors

- Muscle or joint pain

- Headaches
