What is a suprahilar nodule?
A suprahilar nodule is an abnormal growth located near the hilum of an organ. The hilum is the region where blood vessels, nerves, and lymphatic vessels enter or leave an organ. Typically, suprahilar nodules refer to the lungs and are small growths in the area above the hilum, which is the point where the bronchus and pulmonary blood vessels enter the lung. These areas include areas below the trachea known as infrahilar. Suprahilar nodules may be visible in medical imaging and may be benign or malignant in nature.
In the context of other organs, the occurrence and meaning of the term suprahilar nodule or growth should always be contextualized based on the actual organ of reference because the meaning may vary across medical specialties and specific organs.
