How to Use Spot Magnets

Many practitioners of alternative healing use spot magnets (also known as dot magnets) to relieve pain in nearly any part of the body. Spot magnets are approximately 0.2 inches in diameter and 0.1 inches thick, making them ideal for discreet self-healing with no discomfort or harmful side effects. Spot magnets have a north and south pole, with at least one pole clearly marked. Generally, the north or negative pole strengthens and stimulates, adding energy to a site, while the south or positive pole withdraws energy and sedates. Spot magnets are usually gold plated to prevent skin reactions and oxidation and come with a hypoallergenic, waterproof adhesive on one side for fast, easy application and removal. Reaping the full healing benefits spot magnets offer requires no special knowledge of acupressure points or energy meridians.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify the localized site of pain or injury on the body. Determine the type or source of pain, whether an inflammation, growth, tight or weak muscle, or injury.

    • 2

Find the identifying mark on one of the spot magnets that indicates which side is the north pole and which is the south. Generally the north pole will have a distinguishing mark, while the south pole will have none at all. You can confirm this for the spot magnets you're using by checking the literature that came with them.

    • 3

Peel the backing off one of the adhesive pads and apply it to either the north or south pole of the spot magnet, depending on the type of pain. If the pain is related to inflammation, a growth, tight muscle, infection or other circumstances requiring you remove energy from the site, apply the adhesive to the south pole. If the pain is related to a weak muscle, an injury, fatigue, depression or other circumstances requiring you add energy to the site, apply the adhesive to the north pole.

    • 4

Apply the spot magnet directly over the localized site of pain, adhesive side down.

    • 5

Wait 30 minutes. If you feel no relief, repeat steps 1 and 2 with a second magnet placed nearby, but not touching, the first one. If the pain does not subside after the additional 30 minutes, add the third magnet.

    • 6

Leave the spot magnets in place until the pain disappears entirely or for up to 24 hours. If after 24 hours the pain persists, remove the magnets for 24 hours and then reapply them for another 24 hours, repeating the process until the pain subsides.
