Magnet Therapy for Weight Loss

A form of alternative therapy, magnet therapy is used to treat a variety of ailments, from joint pain to poor circulation. While there are no definite studies that demonstrate the efficacy of magnets to induce weight loss, they are cheap to buy and safe to use, which makes them one of those things you can try just in case it works for you.
  1. How magnets work

    • Magnetic therapy is supposed to work by restoring the body's electromagnetic field balance and influencing blood flow and stimulating healing processes. When it comes to weight loss, magnets are supposed to aid in weight loss by affecting breathing patterns and decreasing appetite. Because magnets are supposed to increase blood flow to the area, they could also help with pain, stiffness or general muscle ailments.

    Choosing the right magnet

    • Magnets come in a variety of forms and sizes, but you can start by trying a simple round magnet bought at a craft store. To stimulate your metabolism and increase its capacity to burn calories faster, simply place the north pole of the magnet on your neck, near the thyroid. To determine which side is the north pole of your magnet, you will need to place a compass near or on top of the magnet. The needle of the magnet will point to the south pole of the magnet. If it doesn't, turn it around to try the other side.

    Other options

    • Aside from simple magnets, you can find a series of products containing magnets that may be more comfortable to wear and that you can keep on throughout the day or at least for a longer period of time without interrupting your daily activities. Examples include magnetic insoles, bracelets and neck support braces. Although more expensive, there are also pillows, mattress pads and even blankets that come with magnets.
