How to Close a Chakra

In Sanskrit, the word "chakra" means vortex or wheel. It is believed that there are seven chakras, or energy centers, within each person's consciousness. When you meditate, you open your chakras to the possibilities of the universe. At some point, usually at the end of your meditation, it is advised that you close all seven chakras as well, to protect yourself from negative energy, shut out unwanted stimuli, calm yourself and find inner peace.

Instructions

    • 1

Sit or stand comfortably, as you usually do for meditation. Close your eyes.

    • 2

Imagine a waterfall cleansing you of all energy that is not yours.

    • 3

Imagine that your third-eye (forehead) chakra is a flower whose petals are closing. Allow the flower to gently close, shutting out outside energy and stimuli. Acknowledge that this center is now closed. Repeat this step with the following chakras, one at a time, is this order: throat, heart, spleen, and solar plexis.

    • 4

Review all chakras one at a time, beginning again with the third-eye chackra, acknowledging that they are all closed. Tell yourself that they are all closed, and no other person's energy will be coming in. Acknowledge that you are calm and in control of your chakras.

Imagine the waterfall again, its waters gently pouring onto you from above, cleansing your system of any negative energy that was left behind the first time.

    • 6

Imagine a liquid light in a beautiful color pouring in through your crown chakra at the top of your head. Imagine it supplying you with positive energy by pouring the liquid light through your body down to your toes, and filling up each part of your body, from your toes to your knees to your torso, shoulders and head.

Imagine you are wrapping a protective cloak around your entire body and that it is encasing you and protecting you from any negative energy. Know that you are in control and can do this at any time you like.
