How to Create a Visualization Board

Goal-setting is an important step toward reaching our desired outcomes in life. Many people write a list of goals on a piece of paper, but few go the extra step of making a visual collage of their dreams. A visualization board is a great tool for meditation and bringing about desires, since it brings a tangible quality to a person's plans. Instructions

    • 1

Type out a list of goals. It doesn't have to be restricted to a specific time period, and It's fine to include goals that seem completely unreachable. This is an exercise in letting go of self-judgment, so be honest. Render your list in a font that's pleasing to the eye and easily readable. The list should fit on one piece of paper, so format long lists in two columns if need be.

    • 2

Take the list of goals and translate everything into the present tense. Everything should be phrased in such a way that it's active, as if it is occurring now. For example, "I'm going to be a CEO of my own software firm" would become "I am CEO of my own software firm." Stay away from phrases that use any negatives, such as can't, won't, shouldn't or don't.

    • 3

Now think up phrases that describe these goals. For business, use "successful," "booming" and "security." Love would be best represented by "adoration," "passion," "understanding" or "commitment." Type and print these out in an interesting, attractive font in title size. Cut the phrases from the paper.

    • 4

Compile pictures that encompass the emotion and depth of your goals. For the CEO example, a good picture would be a woman sitting behind a desk, smiling, with her feet up. A good image of someone looking for love would be a couple holding hands and kissing. Emotionally, the aim is to feel the pleasure and fulfillment of your goal as a tangible thing. Select pictures accordingly. Other fun things to cut out are catchy, inspirational quotes and titles.

    • 5

Plan the layout of the collage. Position the list of goals on a large piece of posterboard, then arrange the pictures around it. Once you are satisfied with the layout, start pasting everything to the poster board.

    • 6

After all of the visual elements are glued to the board, take the printed phrases and arrange them over the pictures in a pleasing fashion. Once you are happy with the placement, glue these down as well.

    • 7

When the board is dry, place it in a spot where it will be the first thing you see upon waking up. If that isn't possible, post it in another prominent position.
