  Watch "Discoveries in Alternative Medicine: Naturopathic Physicians," which the American Health Journal produced to provide a comprehensive overview of the naturopathic medical profession. The series, which originally aired in 2009 on PBS in Southern California, now exists on the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians' website and can be accessed online. It covers the course of study that naturopathic doctors must complete: naturopathic research, naturopaths in the community and naturopathic methods of treating children, cancer patients, dialysis patients, chronic illnesses, allergies and other conditions and diseases.

  Study online courses that will serve as the prerequisite for your acceptance to a recognized school of naturopathy. The Association of Accredited Naturopaths gives accreditation to recognized schools of naturopathy that teach naturopathy as a second degree. In order to gain acceptance to any of these schools you must demonstrate that you have completed an undergraduate degree and have studied the same type of science prerequisite courses as you would have to study to attend any school of medicine. Paramount College and the Missouri University of Science and Technology offer online science prerequisites that will allow you to demonstrate to a School of Naturopathy that you have the necessary background to continue with your studies at their school.

  Access an online college or university with courses that cover the naturopathic approach to medicine. The Association of Accredited Naturopaths does not recognize degrees that these schools grant, but you can take online courses through these schools to learn more about the discipline, develop an awareness of naturopathic treatments and perhaps use these courses as a base to go on for formal certification. Bauman College, the Global College of Natural Medicine and Everglades University provide the opportunity to learn naturopathy through online classes and courses.
