How to Heal Cracked Hands Naturally

Dry and cracked hands are uncomfortable and unsightly. Winter winds or an arid summer can bring on the condition. It happens when the skin becomes dehydrated resulting in brittleness. When you use your hands, the dried out skin begins to crack. This state is mildly painful and if left untreated, could potentially allow infection to occur. Use natural remedies to correct dry cracked skin.

Replace moisture in dry cracked hands by soaking them in warm water for five minutes and then covering (while the skin is damp) with a natural lotion. Lotions containing vitamin E or aloe vera are helpful in repairing damaged skin.

    • 2

Clean your hands gently. Washing your hands many times a day is helpful in preventing disease, but if you are not careful, it can make cracked hands worse. Never use hot water or harsh soaps. Instead use tepid water and an all-natural soap. Pat dry and put on lotion or petroleum jelly immediately.

Cover your dry hands to protect them and allow for healing when you are out of doors. Also, when you are doing dishes or cleaning, make sure to keep rubber gloves on your hands to protect them from chemicals that can make your condition worse.

Try a sugar-based concoction to eliminate dry cracked skin. Mix three parts sugar with one part oil to create a gel to coat your hands with for ten minutes. Alternately, mix equal parts of lemon juice, sugar and tap water to make a liquid to rub into your hands for several minutes.

Soothe and heal your hands with honey. Mix a teaspoon of lemon juice and a teaspoon of oil into a half cup of honey. Coat your hands in this mixture and allow it to remain on for five minutes. Rinse well and pat dry with a soft cloth.

Soak your hands in gelatin to help heal cracked skin. Empty a packet of gelatin into a cup of hot water and allow it to set. Then place your hands into the gelatin for 15 or more minutes. This treatment is beneficial for your cuticles and fingernails as well.
