Directions for Hydrogen Peroxide & Colloidal Silver for Ear Infections
While many people with ear aches rush to the doctor to obtain a prescription for antibiotic ear drops or oral medication, others prefer to attempt to treat this common ailment at home before resorting to commercial medicine. In some cases, over-the-counter products such as hydrogen peroxide and colloidal silver, which is available at many health food stores, can treat ear infections successfully without medical intervention.-
Hydrogen Peroxide
-
For many years, hydrogen peroxide has been touted as a potent antimicrobial product. Its use can be extended to ear infections in some cases, clearing up the symptoms of this painful condition in approximately one week in most cases.
To use hydrogen peroxide to clear up an ear infection, use a bottle of hydrogen peroxide purchased from any local pharmacy, drug store or discount store. Most hydrogen peroxide solutions are diluted in water and contain 3 percent peroxide. This is sufficient in most cases.
Wash and dry your hands thoroughly and soak a cotton ball in the hydrogen peroxide. Lie on your side so that the affected ear is facing up. Carefully squeeze the cotton ball above your ear so several drops of peroxide fall into the ear canal.
The peroxide will bubble and may cause your ear to tickle slightly. Resist the urge to touch your ear while the peroxide does its job.
Leave the peroxide in your ear until the bubbling and fizzing cease. Once the fizzing stops, carefully sit up and tilt your head over a towel so that the peroxide drains out of the ear without staining your clothes or furniture.
This process can be repeated several times per day until the ear infection is alleviated and pain is ceased. You can expect results in about one week on average.
Colloidal Silver
-
Colloidal silver is a known antibiotic liquid that is available at many health food stores and supplement stores. It comes in a blue or brown bottle with a dropper.
Colloidal silver is made by using electricity to dissolve tiny particles of silver into distilled water. The resulting liquid is usually golden in color and is similar to the color of apple juice. It works by "suffocating" microorganisms by covering them in microscopic particles of silver, which causes them to stop multiplying and die.
To use colloidal silver to treat an ear infection, instill 2 or 3 drops into the affected ear 3 times daily for one week. Leave the silver in the ear for several minutes and then drain the ear by inserting a cotton ball into the ear opening to absorb any colloidal silver that will drip out upon sitting up.
Warnings and Considerations
-
These home remedies can be combined. You may alternate colloidal silver and peroxide instillation throughout the day to maximize results if you wish.
If your symptoms do not alleviate in one week, or if they become extremely bothersome to the point that you cannot perform daily tasks, see a doctor.
