Natural Cures Using Hydrogen Peroxide
-
Oral Antiseptic
-
Although you may be tempted to reach for the mouthwash when the first signs of gingivitis or sore gums appear, hydrogen peroxide is a much cheaper alternative that works just as well. Simply make a half-and-half mixture of hydrogen peroxide and water, then gargle, rinse and spit. Hydrogen peroxide can clear up mild-to-moderate cases of gingivitis and gum infections in only a few days.
Easing the Flu
-
If you start experiencing flu-like symptoms (sore throat, cough or fever), you can help ease the effects and longevity of the flu by pouring a small amount of hydrogen peroxide (less than one teaspoon) into your ear. Once the peroxide has been applied, wait for it to fizzle (it also may sting a bit), then flush out with water. Be careful not to get the hydrogen peroxide in your eyes. Because many flu viruses take up residence in the outer or middle ear--as it's a nice, warm open space where they can enter and exit freely--doing this within the first 48 hours of flu symptoms can help shorten the duration of your sickness.
Warning
-
The Internet is awash in much unproven information about the use of food-grade hydrogen peroxide for the treatment of serious diseases such as emphysema and cancer. It is very important not to try and ingest food-grade hydrogen peroxide unless you have been specifically told by a physician because food-grade hydrogen peroxide can be very toxic and can harm more than help.
