What Is Stabilized Oxygen?
Developed by Dr. William F. Koch as a treatment for mental slowness, stabilized oxygen has been utilized in an extensive range of applications. It has been approved by the World Health Organization as a water purifier, and its super-oxygenating power is touted as a panacea for all manner of health issues.-
Defining Stabilized Oxygen
-
Stabilized oxygen is also called aerobic oxygen. It is oxygen in its molecular form. Stabilized oxygen is most often sold as a non-toxic liquid concentrate of oxygen electrolytes. Its main benefit is antimicrobial, as its most common use is to kill harmful organisms. Some researchers believe that ingestion of stabilized oxygen increases the concentration of available oxygen in the blood.
Comparison With Tap Water
-
The dissolved oxygen content of tap water is about 9 to 12 parts per million. A solution of water and stabilized oxygen, as generally found on the market, contains in the vicinity of 9,000 parts per million of oxygen. This high concentration is deadly to infectious disease bacteria but non-toxic to humans. Used correctly, stabilized oxygen will kill most harmful microbes, including streptococcus, E. coli, salmonella, cholera, pseudomonas, staphylococcus and giardia.
How It Works
-
Stabilized oxygen is alkaline, with a pH of 12.5. When it is ingested and contacts the acids in the stomach, the solution becomes highly unstable, breaking down immediately. Upon breakdown, the stabilized oxygen releases ions of chlorite, trace amounts of sodium and chlorine dioxide, and molecular oxygen into the plasma of the bloodstream.
Water Purification
-
The most accepted use of stabilized oxygen is as a water purifier. Because of its powerful formulation, it can be carried in small amounts, making it useful for camping and travel to places where filtration isn't quite enough. When a few drops of stabilized oxygen are added to questionable water, the stabilized oxygen goes to work killing illness-causing microbes, viruses and bacteria. Many California school districts use stabilized oxygen in their natural-disaster programs, purifying each 55-gallon drum of water with just one ounce of stabilized oxygen. The treatment makes the water safe to drink for five years or longer.
Health Claims
-
Stabilized oxygen has been the subject of an extensive and widely various range of health benefit claims, very few of which have been substantiated. Because it is said to raise the level of oxygen available to the body, stabilized oxygen has been suggested as a means to address everything from heart problems to headaches. Some naturopaths prescribe stabilized oxygen treatment for infective and fungal ailments (such as yeast infections, candida albicans overgrowth, sinus infections, and tooth decay). Some athletes use it in training to increase energy and stamina.
