How to Use Olive Oil & Lemon Externally to Cure Muscle Pain

Though both ingredients are commonly used in the kitchen, olive oil and lemon also have external healing properties, and may be used externally to treat muscle pain and discomfort. If you suffer from muscle cramping, aches, soreness or pain, consider the following treatment plans to help minimize discomfort.
  1. Massage

    • Millions of Americans suffer from muscle stiffness at some point in life. For a natural, homeopathic remedy, holistic experts advise patients to massage a natural formula of olive oil, lemon, chamomile buds, garlic and vodka into sore, stiff muscles. To prepare the solution, add the juice of half a lemon, two cloves of garlic (finely chopped), two chamomile buds and 1 tbsp. of vodka to half a cup of olive oil. Allow mixture to sit for nine days to marinate, then stir the combination and massage into sore muscles immediately.

    Bath

    • An additional solution that can be used to reduce muscle pain is a combination made from ginger, lavender, lemon juice and marjoram extract. This solution should be added to a warm bath water for a stimulating experience that helps reduce muscle pain and stiffness. To make, combine two drops of lavender and marjoram to one drop of ginger. Add 1 tbsp. of olive oil and 1 tsp. of lemon juice. Combine the mixture with one cup of Epsom salts and add to warm water. Soak for 30 minutes for optimal results.

    Wrap

    • Many people suffer from leg stiffness after a long day of work, particularly in occupations that require the person to stand, such as teaching or construction work. If you suffer from leg stiffness, saturate a warm rag in olive oil. Next, wrap the rag around the afflicted muscles and allow to sit for 10 to 15 minutes. Be sure to change the compress if pain or stiffness continues after this time.
