Homemade Nose Spray

When you need nose spray there are several retail options, but these products can be expensive and ineffective in healing nasal problems. Instead, consider making your own homemade or natural nasal treatments by using inexpensive ingredients most likely already in your kitchen pantry or medicine cabinet.
  1. Salt and Baking Soda

    • A simple salt and baking soda mixture works effectively to clean the nose and remove irritants. Pour a cup of warm water into a miniature bulb syringe designed for children's use, then add 1/2 tsp. of table salt and 1/4 tsp. of baking soda. Squirt this solution into each nostril two to three times, and blow your nose after each application. This will remove any pollen, dust or other element that leads to nose irritation. Repeat as often as necessary.

    Steam

    • Steam also works to moisturize the nostrils, eliminating irritation from dry nostrils. Boil a pan of hot water, pour into a bowl, then place your face over the bowl and breathe in the steaming vapors for 5 to 10 minutes. Blow the nose to remove built-up dust or pollen, then repeat to keep moisture in the skin. Alternately, take a warm bath and breathe in the steaming vapors for 15 minutes. Repeat as often as necessary, as dryness persists.

    Spicy Foods

    • Spicy foods are also a natural way to make the nose run, and open sinus cavities. This allows dirt and built-up pollen to excrete from the nostrils, while also allowing you to breathe more easily. Add hot peppers or red pepper flakes to your favorite dish, eat a mild to hot salsa, or have an Indian dish with curry seasoning. Eat these foods as often as you like, if your stomach can tolerate them, to keep nasal cavities clear and operating at their best.
