Natural Remedy for Acid Indigestion

Acid indigestion, or heartburn, can be caused by many factors and can be an uncomfortable condition to deal with. There are natural ways to prevent or alleviate symptoms, which can be helpful in mild-to-moderate cases.
  1. Overeating

    • Avoid overeating, which is the most common cause of acid indigestion. The fuller the stomach is, the more acid is forced back up.

    Vinegar

    • Mix 1 tsp. of apple cider vinegar in a half glass of water and sip it throughout the meal. Vinegar is a good acid and helps to prevent acid indigestion.

    Ginger

    • Take two capsules of ginger just after eating. Ginger absorbs stomach acid and has a secondary calming effect on the nerves.

    Avoid Chocolate

    • Chocolate affects heartburn in two ways: It is nearly all fat and contains caffeine, both of which instigate acid indigestion.

    Sit Up

    • Laying flat causes gravity to work against you. Sitting upright prevents acid from traveling up your stomach and into the esophagus.
