Home Remedies for Dry Skin During Winter
Winter can be your skin's worst nemesis. The good news is that there's plenty of easy-to-make, natural home remedies for dry skin, many of which give expensive, store-bought creams a run for their money.-
The Treatment: Internal
-
Treating dry skin in the winter requires a holistic approach. It's important to watch what you eat. Foods that nourish your skin include eggs, garlic and onion, which are rich in sulphur, and fresh fruits and vegetables like carrots and cantaloupe, which are rich in vitamin A. Drink at least 2 qt. of water a day to keep your skin hydrated.
The Treatment: External
-
External, homemade treatments for dry skin include a scrub made of flax seed, sugar and whole milk; an almond and yogurt face mask; an avocado skin cream; warm, olive oil massage; coconut oil for the scalp; and sweet almond oil for dry lips. To retain moisture in the air, spray rose water in your bedroom and living area twice a day.
Preparation
-
Mix powdered flax seed (4 tbsp.), brown sugar (4 tbsp.) and whole milk (at room temperature) to form a thick paste. Rub skin with warm olive oil and let it sit for five minutes. Next, scrub with the paste to exfoliate, and wash away the residue with warm water. For a hydrating face mask, mix plain yogurt (4 tbsp.) and ground almonds (6 tbsp.). Spread thickly on the face, massaging lightly with your finger tips for a few minutes. Let it stay on for 20 minutes. Wash off the mask with a moisturizing soap bar. Mash an avocado with olive oil (6 tbps.) and slather it on your skin for 20 minutes, just before a moisturizing bath. Add a few teaspoons of olive oil in your bath water.
