Kinoki Detox

Kinoki detox is a form of holistic detoxification administered in the form of a foot pad. Kinoki foot pads specifically are manufactured by the Xacta 3000 company in Lakeshore, N.J. The company states that the pads remove toxins from the bloodstream during sleep, such as parasites, metabolic wastes and heavy metals. However, these claims have been questioned by consumers, and also by the Federal Trade Commission.
  1. What They Do

    • The company says the pads contain a mix of natural Japanese herbs and oils, in addition to bamboo vinegar designed to draw out toxins from the pores. Advertisements for Kinoki foot pads state that removal of these toxins would result in better overall health, and a cure for ailments like headaches, arthritis and back pain.

    Counter Claims

    • An independent investigation performed by ABC News 20/20 concluded that the Kinoki foot pads were a scam, and do not remove the toxins claimed by its manufacturers. Tests performed in a lab on used footpads showed that perspiration from the feet actually caused the pads to turn brown, not the collection of toxins from the body.

    FTC

    • On Jan. 29, 2009, The Federal Trade Commission charged the marketers of Kinoki Foot Pads with deceptive advertising. The pads are no longer available from Xacta and their website and television advertising has been shut down.
