What to look for when a victim is unresponsive?

If a person is unresponsive, you need to check for the following:

- Responsiveness: Gently shake the victim's shoulders andshout loudly in their ear. "Are you okay?" and check for any signs of movement or sound.

- Breathing: Look, listen, and feel for breathing. Place your ear close to the person's mouth and nose. Look for chest movement and listen for the sound of breathing. If the person is not breathing, begin CPR.

- Circulation: Check for a pulse for no more than 10 seconds. Use two fingers to feel for the pulse in the person's neck next to the Adam's apple. If there is no pulse, begin CPR.

- Bleeding: Look for any signs of bleeding. If there is significant bleeding, apply pressure to the bleeding wound with a clean cloth or your hands.

- Other signs of injury: Look for any signs of injury, such as bruising, swelling, or deformity.

- Medical ID or device: Check the person for a medical ID or device that provides information about their health conditions or medical needs.

- Scene safety: Ensure the scene is safe for both the victim and the rescuers. Be aware of any potential hazards such as traffic, downed power lines, or sharp objects.

If you are unsure whether a person is unresponsive, it is best to treat them as if they are and call for emergency medical help immediately.
