How to Take Epsom Salt for Magnesium
Magnesium sulfate, also known as Epsom salt, is a soothing way to boost your body's magnesium level. The best way to do this is to take a warm Epsom salt bath because your body absorbs more of the mineral through the skin than from any other method. Not only does a bath boost your magnesium, it also helps with muscle aches and gently fades discoloration from bruises. Always check with your doctor before using Epsom salt if you are pregnant, if you have a magnesium deficiency that is being treated with medication or if you have other special medical circumstances to consider.Things You'll Need

Epsom Salt Bath
-
1
Fill the bathtub with warm water until it is two-thirds full or is full enough for you to take a regular bath.
-
2
Measure out two cups of Epsom salt and add to water. This measurement is for a standard-sized tub. If you have a much larger tub, you can use three or four cups, depending on the size of the tub. If you're using a hot tub or other nonstandard tub, check with the manufacturer for any safety measures that might be needed before using it for an Epsom salt bath.
-
3
Use your hand to mix the Epsom salt and bathwater thoroughly by gently swishing through the water from the front to the back of the tub. The bath should be warm and comfortable to the touch, and not too hot or too cool.
-
4
Undress and get in the bathtub for a warm, relaxing bath. Soak in the Epsom bath for at least 12 minutes to receive the full effect. The magnesium sulfate, combined with warm water, will relax your muscles and ease away aches and pains, so doing this before bedtime will help you sleep. You can stay in longer, but don't go overboard and soak until the water turns cold. Get out of the tub while the water remains warm, so your muscles stay relaxed.

5
Repeat this bath procedure up to three times a week as needed. Balancing your magnesium levels can, according to the Epsom Salt Council, help you deal with stress and assist in better circulation and muscle and nerve health throughout your body.
