  Check to make sure you are suited to do an ion cleanse foot bath. The foot baths are not recommended for those with diabetes or epilepsy, who are pregnant or lactating, those with blood pressure problems, who have open sores on the feet, who are using devices or medication to regulate their heartbeat, those who've had an organ transplant and those still under a doctor's care from a recent surgery. Once you have determined that the foot bath will be safe, take off your socks and shoes.

  Prepare the foot bath with room temperature water and a few grams of salt. Make sure the metal ion array is in the water and that you have a convenient outlet to plug the unit in. Consult the manufacturer's instructions and monitor the unit's readout to make sure you use the correct amount of salt. Salt increases the conductivity of the water, so the charged ions can move more freely. Do not use iodized salt.

  Clean your feet prior to the session, if they are visibly dirty. Place your feet in the water and activate the machine. If you are an adult, set a timer for 30 minutes and for 15 minutes for individuals aged 8 to 18.

  Watch the water and you will notice a variety of colors emerge. According to some, the various colors indicate that certain impurities are emerging or that certain organs are being cleansed. Black is alleged to indicate impurities from your liver and black flecks indicate heavy metals are being purged. Dark green could mean that your gallbladder is releasing materials and orange is said to show that toxicity from your joints is emerging. If you see red flecks, it could mean that blood clot material is present and white cheese-like particles can indicate yeast. Mucous from your lymphatic system may be indicated by white foam and yellow-green could mean your renal system is being cleansed.
