List and define the three types of synapses?

There are three main types of synapses:

1. Electrical synapses: Electrical synapses are direct connections between neurons where the electrical signal from one neuron is directly transmitted to the next neuron. This type of synapse is very fast and allows for rapid communication between neurons.

2. Chemical synapses: Chemical synapses are the most common type of synapse and they involve the release of chemical neurotransmitters from one neuron to the next. The neurotransmitter molecules diffuse across the synaptic cleft (the space between neurons) and bind to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron, causing a change in the electrical potential of the postsynaptic neuron.

3. Mixed synapses: Mixed synapses have characteristics of both electrical and chemical synapses. They can transmit signals both electrically and chemically.
