What is a sacral hemangioma?

A sacral hemangioma is a benign tumor made up of blood vessels, located in the sacrum, which is the triangular bone at the base of the spine. It is a relatively rare condition, and it usually affects adults between the ages of 20 and 40.

Sacral hemangiomas can be either symptomatic or asymptomatic. Symptomatic hemangiomas can cause a variety of symptoms, including:

* Pain in the lower back, buttocks, or thighs

* Numbness or tingling in the legs

* Difficulty with bowel or bladder movements

* Sexual dysfunction

Asymptomatic hemangiomas do not cause any symptoms and are often found incidentally on imaging tests that are performed for other reasons.

The treatment of sacral hemangiomas depends on the severity of the symptoms. Symptomatic hemangiomas may be treated with a variety of methods, including:

* Medication to relieve pain and inflammation

* Physical therapy to improve flexibility and range of motion

* Surgery to remove the hemangioma

Asymptomatic hemangiomas typically do not require treatment.
