What Is Symbrachydactyly?

Symbrachydactyly is a rare medical condition that affects the development of the hands and fingers. It is characterized by short and underdeveloped fingers, absent fingers or thumbs, and other abnormalities of the hand. The exact cause of symbrachydactyly is unknown, but it is thought to be caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. In some cases, it may be associated with other conditions, such as Holt-Oram syndrome and VACTERL association. Treatment for symbrachydactyly may include surgery to correct the deformities, physical therapy to improve function, and occupational therapy to help the person learn to use their hands more effectively. In severe cases, amputation of the affected fingers or thumbs may be necessary.
