What is chondroblastic osteosarcoma?
Chondroblastic osteosarcoma (COS) is a rare subtype of osteosarcoma, a malignant tumor of the bone. It is characterized by the presence of cartilage-forming cells, called chondroblasts, within the tumor. COS typically affects the long bones of the extremities, such as the thigh bone (femur) and shin bone (tibia), and is most common in children and adolescents.
COS is a highly aggressive form of osteosarcoma and is associated with a poor prognosis. Treatment typically involves surgery to remove the tumor, followed by chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The goal of treatment is to completely remove the tumor and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the body.
Symptoms of COS may include:
* Pain in the affected bone
* Swelling
* Tenderness
* Difficulty moving the affected limb
* Bone deformity
* Fever
* Weight loss
* Fatigue
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, it is important to see a doctor right away to get a diagnosis and start treatment.
