What is a circumferential osteophyte?
A circumferential osteophyte is an overgrowth or growth of bone around the circumference or a rounded edge of a joint. Osteophytes are abnormal build-ups of bone tissue that often develop around the edges of bones, particularly around joints affected by osteoarthritis. They can appear as small, bony projections or spurs and are a result of the bone's attempt to reinforce and strengthen itself to compensate for wear and tear in the joint. Circumferential osteophytes are characterized by their location and appearance, encircling the circumference or border of the joint.
