How to Make Positive Things Happen
In 2006, the film "The Secret" took the world by storm. It proclaimed a message that individuals anywhere could live the lives they wanted by doing one simple thing; thinking positively. The concept is that by being positive, people can attract the things they want. Negative thinking only attracts negative experiences. This is known as the "law of attraction." Making positive changes to your own way of thinking can help you make positive things happen in the rest of your life.Instructions

Set goals for yourself. Ask yourself what you want to accomplish in life. Write your goals down, or place pictures on a cork board to help you remember them. Setting goals gives you a place to start and a path to follow. They also make you responsible for your own success. Set goals to help you motivate yourself to make positive changes in your life.

Take the steps necessary to accomplish your goals. They won't accomplish themselves. Divide each goal into baby steps, if you need to. For example, your first goal might be to find a job you enjoy. To achieve this, you may need to enroll in some classes to gain a new skill, do volunteer work to gain experience, create a new resume and send in applications. Regardless of your goal, taking small steps can help you track your progress and reach the final goal without overwhelming yourself.

Visualize the things you want every day. Take five or ten minutes to sit quietly and imagine your life as you want it to be. Picture that new car or family. Feel the emotions the same way you would if you had these things now. Visualization is a powerful technique that can even help athletes perform better at competition. It is a dress rehearsal for your brain and prepares you to accept these positive changes into your life. Visualizing can also give you a sense of hope and motivation to keep working toward your goals.

Eliminate negative thinking from your life. Thinking negatively can make you feel discouraged and keep you from trying to make positive changes. If you catch yourself thinking a negative thought, change it to something more positive. Make small changes to your language. For example, don't say that you "have" to go to work. Say that you "get" to go to work.
