How is Colloidial Silver Made?

Silver has many medicinal properties. The use of this element in medicine is an old concept. However, it was not until recently that this alternative remedy gained popularity. In fact, colloidal silver, which is a mixture of dissolved silver ions and particles suspended in a solution, is one of the most well-known alternative treatments for a variety of diseases and disorders. It is distributed commercially for its antibacterial and other health benefits. This product can be expensive, and not all commercially distributed colloidal silver is of excellent quality. As a result, home production of this alternative medicine is on the rise.
  1. The Basics: Electrolysis

    • Colloidal silver is produced through a process called electrolysis. When silver is exposed to an electric current, it loses an electron, which turns the atom into an ion. Silver ions are soluble in water, but some of them will be within proximity of the anode, or the positive terminal used to generate the current. The ions in this case gain an electron and revert back to atoms. When these atoms clump together, they form visible particles that are suspended in the solution.

    Generator or DIY

    • Currently, several manufacturers offer colloidal silver generators. These are electrically equipped containers that facilitate electrolysis when operated. However, self-made generators are also quite popular. A simple glass container, when hooked up correctly to a power source, functions well as a colloidal silver generator.

    Materials

    • The most important material is the silver. Pure silver wires, 12- or 14-gauge, serve this purpose the best. The purity of the silver is a big concern, since it influences how the element will react to the electric current, and in turn, the overall effectiveness of the product. Another important material is the water where the wires will be submerged. Use distilled water to limit the amount of minerals that can potentially react with the silver. The third most essential material is the power source, which will depend on the target output amount of colloidal silver.

    The Setup

    • If you are using a generator, the process is simple. All you have to do to make homemade colloidal silver is to add the materials and fire up the gadget. Those constructing their own units, on the other hand, have to set up the apparatus correctly before proceeding with the process. Alligator clips are used to connect the silver wires to the power source. The wires are then submerged in the water, completely separate from each other.

    "Cooking" Colloidal Silver

    • Once the needed materials are set up correctly, the power source is turned on. After the fourth or fifth minute, the power is turned off and the silver wires are cleaned. This process should be followed for three hours for the first batch of colloidal silver. The following batches, which use a portion of the first batch's output, only have to be cooked for 90 minutes. It is normal for the entire solution to turn a yellowish hue during the process.
