Basalt Stones
-
Basalt stones are most often used for Earthstone massage therapy. Once heated they retain a constant temperature and do not burn the skin when applied. This type of massage requires a variety of stone sizes. Use larger stones for thighs. Use medium-sized stones for massaging feet and small stones for facial massage. Basalt stone kits include one heart, belly, sacrum and third-eye stone; 10 face stones; eight toe stones;12 spinal stones; and 14 body stones.
Hot Stone Warmer
-
The hot stone warmer heats the stones to 140 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure proper temperature for client relaxation. Stone warmers have a temperature control with two settings; one to heat the water to desired temperature and the other to maintain the temperature selected. Along with the warmer, a thermometer is needed to check water temperature and a spoon or sieve to remove rocks. The warmer comes in two sizes, 6 1/2 quart and 18 quart.
Massage Oils and Lotions
-
Massage therapists use oils to massage the rocks over the body and enhance the Earthstone massage experience. Together with the heat, the oils help stretch and loosen muscles and release tension, stress and toxins while relaxing and rejuvenating the body. Essential oils and lotions used on the face help relieve sinus pressure and muscle tension. Essential oil blends come in various scents including French lavender, citrus, cedar, fresh herbal and lemongrass-ginger. The scent of the oils along with the heat of the stones provide relaxing aromatherapy.
