How to Make a Vegetable Tincture

A vegetable tincture is a type of natural medicine that uses vegetable glycerin as a base rather than alcohol or vinegar. The glycerin from vegetables is combined with herbs and water to bring out the herbal extracts. It is then given as a medicine for various health conditions, such as upset stomach or anxiety, depending on the herbs used for the tincture. The medicine is given in a dropper and is fast acting and all natural.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a clean jar with fresh herbs after rinsing them to remove any dirt. After the jar is full, remove the herbs and chop them up as fine as possible. You can use a knife and cutting board or put the herbs in a blender to chop them up. Put the herbs back in the jar.

Pour in water and vegetable glycerin. The amount is equal with one part glycerin and one part water.

    • 3

Screw the lid on the jar until it is tight, and shake well. Place the mixture in a cool dark location. It should sit for four to six weeks. Shake it once every few days for the best results. After four to six weeks, it is ready to strain.

Line the strainer with cheesecloth to allow the liquid out and catch all of the herbs. Pour the mixture through the strainer and cheesecloth with a second clean jar positioned under the strainer. When all of the tincture is poured out, lift the cheesecloth out of the strainer, hold it over the second jar and squeeze it to get out the remaining liquid.
