The Types of Massaging
For nearly 4,000 years, the use of massage has assisted healing. Massage, which manipulates your muscles and tissues as a form of relaxing therapy, can also help treat injuries, control blood pressure, and be used to ease cancer treatment. Techniques of massage include gentle caressing to vigorous kneading.-
Swedish Massage
-
Developed in Sweden and introduced to the U.S. during the 1850's, Swedish massage is "the most common" form of massage. Swedish massage uses five principal strokes, such as circular movements and vibration to help promote relaxation, remove waste from your tissues and improve overall circulation.
Sports Massage
-
Athletes use sports massage to prevent injuries and promote healing of injuries. Sports can create tension by releasing waste products into the muscles. This can cause pain after workouts and games. Sports massage can stretch muscles, improve muscle mobility and increase blood flow.
Deep Tissue
-
Deep tissue massage relies on forceful strokes to reach connective tissue and deeper muscles. Deep tissue works out knots and tension. Chronic muscle inflammation can benefit from deep tissue massage. Deep tissue massage can cause soreness after treatments.
Hot Stone
-
Smooth rocks treated in hot water, are placed strategically on areas of your body to develop muscle relaxation. Before the placement of the stones on your body, you are treated with a massage. The use of stones can reduce pain and inflammation, help promote relaxation and rid your body of toxins.
Trigger Point
-
Trigger point massage releases tightness within specific points on your body. For example, if you experience neck pain, your massage therapist would work on the source of your pain. By massaging your trigger point, endorphins are released, which alleviates your discomfort.
