Recommended Usage for Modifilan
Modifilan, a nutritional supplement containing the brown seaweed Laminaria japonica, is advertised for use in the treatment of multiple problems including obesity, thyroid issues, high cholesterol, cardiovascular disease and cancer. However, none of these health claims are supported by the FDA.-

According to the Modifilan Seaweed Extract website, the supplement was introduced by Russian scientists in the late 1960s to treat radiation poisoning, and became well-known as an effective remedy after the Chernobyl disaster in 1989.

Modifilan has been a registered product in the U.S. since 2001. Although other companies make and distribute Laminaria japonica, the Modifilan formula contains extracts from the seaweed, including the starches laminarin, alginate and fucoidan, the pigment focoxanthin, and iodine.

The company claims that 40 lbs. of the seaweed is necessary to produce 1 lb. of its product, and that its preparation is highly digestible compared to the seaweed. The recommended dose range is two to 10 capsules per day depending on the user's symptoms.
