Ways to Get Warm
The advent of winter brings bitter cold temperatures and blustery snowfall. After spending time outside sledding with the family, making snowmen with the kids, shoveling the driveway or sometimes just walking from your car to the house, it can be difficult to warm yourself back up. However, there are plenty of ways to get warm and stay warm during this cold season.-
Layer Clothing
-
Trap your body heat in and keep the cold out by layering your clothes. Start with long underwear then add a long-sleeved t-shirt and turtleneck sweater or fleece sweatshirt. On the bottom half wear tights or long underwear and jeans, corduroys or sweatpants. Don't forget about your feet. Invest in a thick pair of wool socks and slippers. You can also add a hat, scarf and gloves.
Blankets
-
Get cozy under a pile of blankets. Use a down blanket, wool blanket or fleece blanket. If you're really cold, layer the blankets. An electric blanket will not only trap your body heat under the fabric but generate heat to get you warmed up quickly.
Sunlight
-
Pets such as cats and dogs tend to nap in the sunlight coming through the window in the winter. This helps them stay warm. It can help you too. Open the blinds and curtain of any south facing window in your home on a sunny winter day and bask in the sunlight. You'll feel yourself warm up in no time.
Drink Something Warm
-
Warm yourself from the inside out. Drink a cup of hot coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Not only will this heat your insides, but that warm mug will feel splendid to cold hands. You can also consume a bowl of soup such as chicken noodle, vegetable or tomato.
Cuddle
-
Share the body heat of a loved one by cuddling together with a loved one on the couch. Not only will you warm up, but you'll get to spend time with that special someone. Your pets also produce a lot of body heat so if you don't have a significant other, cuddle with your animal. Invite your cat to lay on your lap or you dog to lay on your feet.
Space Heater
-
Sit next to your space heater. A furnace keeps a house at a certain temperature. While being in this warmer environment will warm you, it will take quite a bit of time. A space heater produces heat you can sit next to and warm you hands and feet. It will quickly heat a small room as well.
