Information on How to Do Stone Massage

Stone massage is a simple and affordable way to treat yourself or someone you love to a spa experience. It is used for relaxation, healing, improving circulation, removing toxins from the body, arthritis and boosting mood. Basalt stones are the most commonly used stones due to the heat retention, but any kind of flat, round and smooth stone can be used. Stones can be found along the seaside, at a local quarry or online. In as little as 15 minutes, you can be ready to give a stone massage.

Instructions

    • 1

Heat water three to four minutes until warm, not hot. Heat enough water to cover the stones, four to six cups. Lay the stones in a basin, and pour the water over them. Let the stones sit in the water for three to five minutes, allowing them to absorb the heat.

    • 2

Have the person lie face down in a comfortable position. Massage oil into the person's skin so that the stone glides easily over the body.

    • 3

Place one stone each on the palms and feet, and two stones on either side of the spine at the waist. The warm stones will relax the area while you are massaging other parts of the body.

    • 4

Take one of the stones from the waist and move it up and down along spine, applying light pressure for four minutes. Move the stones to the neck and shoulders, massaging in a circular motion. After four minutes, switch to the hands and then feet, moving stones in an up and down motion, gently stretching the person's toes and fingers.

    • 5

Remove the stones and wipe off excess oil. Have the person sit up slowly: massage can make you light headed due to the heavy relaxation. Offer water to the person to prevent dehydration.
