Electromagnetic Field in Humans

While there appears to be little valid proof dealing with electromagnetic fields within the human body, there is a school of thought in alternative medicine that accepts its existence and incorporates it in their healing practices.
  1. History

    • In India, about 5,000 years ago, the energy field known as prana was referenced. Nearly 2,000 years later, Chinese medical practitioners explored the concept of qi, which they thought was the energy found at the root of all life. In his book, "Future Science," author John White discusses nearly 100 cultures which have developed and referenced the concept of the human energy field (HEF).

    Public Health

    • Individuals worried about the effects of electromagnetic radiation affecting the electromagnetic fields around human beings prompted the World Health Organization (WHO) to investigate. After going through numerous studies, WHO published its findings, stating that there was no evidence to support claims that electromagnetic fields around humans caused problems within the organism.

    Scientific Validation

    • While there appears to be little absolute proof in the existence of an electromagnetic field around individuals, there have been claims made as to scientific authentication. Dr. Walter Kilner, in 1911, reported on seeing the human aura, using a series of glass screens that had been stained with certain dyes. Dr. Kilner reported seeing three unique layers of a kind of light energy. In 1939, a Soviet electrician named Semyon Davidovich Kirlian developed a photographic technique that was able to photograph unique phenomena on animate and inanimate objects. When human beings were used, the photographic technique known as Kirlian photography showed individuals that had illnesses which had not been diagnosed prior to the photographs.
