How to Increase Blood Circulation to the Jaw

Temporomandibular (TM) disorder causes discomfort, headaches, stiffness and pain to occur in the muscles that connect the lower jaw to the skull. It occurs due to a wide range of causes such as clenching the jaw repeatedly throughout the day, grinding of the teeth, arthritis or injury. Treatment usually consists of anti-inflammatory medicines, rest of the muscles and helping to increase blood flow to the sore, inflamed areas of the jaw muscle.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a warm moist cloth along the jawbone several times per day, according to WebMD. Leave the warm cloth on the area for 15 minutes to help dilate the blood vessels and increase the blood flow.

    • 2

Open and close your mouth slowly while the heated cloth is on the jaw. Repeat the exercise several times while using the heated compress.

    • 3

Massage the muscles along the jawline in a soft circular motion. Focus the massage on the jaw bone itself but also move upwards and gently rub the muscles in each temple which also control the jaw. The massaging helps to increase blood flow to the affected areas.
