Types of Elemental Wands

Use of the four different elements---earth, air, water and fire---is common among healers practicing alternative medicine. They believe that each element, represented by certain stones and crystals, connects with the body in different ways and provides specific mental, emotional or physical aid. An elemental wand is a specific type of wand incorporating stones representative of one of the four elements. In acupuncture as well as some types of massage therapy, practitioners use these wands to apply pressure at certain points in the body, believing this creates a connection between the body and the physical world.
  1. Earth Wands

    • The element of earth is associated with stability, strength and practicality. Elemental earth wands are believed to increase fertility and help a person center his priorities and energies, resulting in patience and organization. Practitioners of alternative medicine believe wearing an earth wand can lead to prosperity and wealth, as well as success in working with nature. They commonly construct such wands with turquoise, black or green tourmaline, marble, amethyst, onyx, or jade, favoring dark, earthy colors such as brown, black and green.

    Fire Wands

    • Traditionally, fire is associated with creativity, energy and purification. Elemental fire wands---constructed with red, gold and orange stones like garnet, amber, citrine and carnellian, as well as lava---are purported to strengthen willpower, and heal and renew the body. Believers recommend these wands for use in creative projects such as dance, drama and art, or physical endeavors, including sports and exercise.

    Air Wands

    • Air, the lightest, most insubstantial element, is commonly associated with mental activity, including memory, ideas and reasoning. An air wand would incorporate clear, blue, or light purple stones including quartz, amethyst and aventurine. Healers recommend these wands for aid in decision-making, as well as perception and learning.

    Water Wands

    • Of all the elements, water is the most directly associated with healing and renewal. Water wands, constructed with blue, clear or green stones including aquamarine, pearl, river stones or amethyst, are recommend for self-healing and physical well-being. The element is also associated with emotions, and is said to govern inner journeys and create balance.
