Turpentine is a compound distilled from the wax expelled by coniferous--especially pine--trees. Throughout its history, the medicinal uses of spirits of turpentine have remained questionable and are even considered toxic by some.-
Paint Solvent

The most commonly accepted use of turpentine is as a natural paint solvent. Pour some of the oil on areas affected by oil-based paint and rub gently to remove the paint. It washes off easily with water.
