Medical Uses for Zeolites
Formed from sea salt and volcanic ash over millions of years, zeolite is an inorganic microporous mineral found in deposits worldwide. There are three kinds of zeolite: crystalline, leafy and fibrous.-
Crystalline Zeolite
-
Containing high quantities of the mineral clinoptilolite, crystalline zeolite has medicinal properties. Clinoptilolite’s structure consists of aluminosilicates and silicon oxides and contributes to some of the medical uses of crystalline zeolite. Clinoptilolite was shown to be a potent antioxidant resulting from clinical studies of patients and volunteers suffering from diabetes and malignant diseases.
Veterinary Medical Uses
-
Micronized zeolite has been used in veterinary care for some time. A Croatian study of cancer in dogs revealed the elimination or dramatic reduction of cancerous tumors. Dogs with various cancers--such as prostate, mammary tumors and lung tumors--were treated orally with zeolite and responded positively in all cases. In some instances, symptoms disappeared. Crystalline zeolite, with the mineral clinoptilolite, has been used on livestock and horses in Cuba to promote the healing of topical wounds.
Cancer Treatment
-
Micronized zeolite was combined with magnesium and calcium and patented into a formula called Megamin. After taking Megamin orally (capsule form), male patients in Croatia and Austria with lung, prostate, liver and intestinal cancer all showed significant improvements in their symptoms.
Other Uses
-
Zeolite, in powder form, applied externally has been shown to hasten the healing of surgical incisions and wounds, according to the website Australian Zeolite Products. Zeolite has been used as a safe antacid for those who have ulcers, and it has been shown to be an effective antidiarrheic. Zeolite has been used to control infections of the urinary tract and has been used to prevent the formation of plaque on teeth.
Oral Dietary Supplement
-
Recent studies have shown natural zeolite clinoptilolite has a positive impact on the immune system. Zeolite raises the body’s antioxidant levels, helps alkalize pH and binds, or contains, radioactive compounds and free radicals in the body. The common dosage is 12 to 16 grams daily in either capsule or powder form and is available as a supplement from many herbal companies.
