How to Apply a Body Wrap

Using body wraps is the practice of applying substances such as herbs, clay and sea weed to absorb into the body. Wrap can mean simply applying the lotions, creams or material to the body, or it can include adding a cloth or plastic wrap over the material like a bandage for the entire body. Although the specific benefits of wraps lack scientific study, many health spas and holistic practitioners claim health benefits from weight loss to detoxification.

Heat approximately one half gallon of distilled water. Add two cups of clay. Mix in the clay and let it cool. Take a warm bath or shower. It is important that the pores are open to absorb the beneficial ingredients of the wrap. As an alternative, you can dry brush your body with a natural hair brush or scrub with salt and water.

Soak the strips of cloth in the warm mixture. Apply the strips beginning at the ankles and wrap snugly. Continue to apply the strips and work your way up your body. Alternately, only apply the strips to areas on which you want to focus, for example, your stomach and abdomen. Relax for an hour. Remove the strips and take a cool bath or shower.
